Traveling with currency and purchases, what rules do I need to know and what Customs declarations are required?


Currency

  • On leaving France :
    - You can take unlimited amounts of currency with you, but
    - You should declare to French Customs any currency, negotiable instruments or securities worth more than  €7,622.45.
  • Before leaving, be sure to inform yourselves of any regulations applicable in your destination country.

Duty free purchases

  • You can reclaim Value Added Tax (TVA) from your purchases :
    - if you live outside of the European Union,
    - if you are over the age of 15.
  • When you leave France you will need to get your Export Sales Slips stamped by Customs at the airport.

Good subject to specific restrictions

  • The products listed below are subject to specific restrictions :
Cultural items
Species belonging to protected wild fauna and flora, and products derived there from
Live animals and animal products
Vegetation and vegetable products
Weapons and ammunition
Medicine and medical products (except for the traveler's personal use)
Wine, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and other regulated products
